Pop Genre

The term "pop" originally represented any music that was popular, even rock could have been considered pop as it was popular but in the late 1960's pop and rock became increasingly different from each other.

Pop music is electric and often borrows from other genres of music such as; urban, dance, country and sometimes rock.

There are elements that define "pop" such as pop songs being short to medium length and using a very heavy amount of repetition.

The main aim of pop music is to try and appeal to a general audience. They do this through their mainstream style, with a simple and repetitive structure.
